Receiving Feedback

Definition

Engaging with critique rather than defending against it — hearing the observation, considering it, and being able to explain the decision made in response.

Why it matters

A maker is not obligated to take every suggestion, but is obligated to consider it and articulate why. That articulation is itself evidence of design judgment.

Example

“I tried that and rejected it because it undercut the contrast the concept depends on — here’s the version where I tested it.”

Teaching note

Depends on Documentation of Change (Section 6). Students with documented alternates can answer this way; students without them can only defend or capitulate.
