Giving Feedback

Definition

Offering observations that are specific, about the work, and actionable — describing what is observed, naming the principle involved, and proposing what to try instead.

Why it matters

“I like it” and “it feels off” give the maker nothing to act on. Feedback earns its place by being usable.

Example

“The confirmation disappears before I can register that anything happened” — observation, principle, and implied fix in one sentence.

Teaching note

The three-part structure is learnable and worth modelling explicitly in the first critique of a term. Without it, early critiques default to reassurance.
