Composition

Definition

The arrangement of visual elements within a space to guide the eye and establish relationships between content.

Why it matters

Composition determines whether a piece feels balanced and intentional or chaotic and accidental, regardless of how good the individual elements are.

Example

Placing a focal element off-center so the surrounding space directs attention toward it rather than away.
