Margins

Definition

The space between a page’s content and the outer edge of the page itself.

Why it matters

Margins frame the entire composition and, in print, also account for practical constraints like binding, trimming, and where the eye naturally stops scanning.

Example

A book’s inner margin is often wider than its outer margin to compensate for space lost in binding.
