EPS and Other Handoff Formats

Definition

Formats that package vector artwork for placement into another document or print workflow — EPS, PDF, and native application formats each carry different assumptions about editability and transparency handling.

Why it matters

A handoff format exists so artwork can be dropped into someone else’s layout reliably. The format chosen determines what survives that trip.

Note

EPS is a legacy format and handles transparency poorly; PDF is the more current choice for most workflows. If a pipeline asks for EPS, it’s usually for compatibility with something older downstream — worth naming as the reason, not treating as the neutral default.
