Curation — Selecting What Represents Your Work

Definition

The deliberate process of choosing which pieces best represent your skills and intent, and in what order or context.

Why it matters

Not everything made belongs in a portfolio — curation is its own creative skill, and a weak selection undersells strong work.

Example

Choosing the eight strongest pieces for a review rather than including all twenty made in a semester.

Teaching note

Selecting one version from one’s own series is a defensible judgment, and asking for the defense is where the skill actually develops.
