Section 8 · Sourcing & Image Ethics

Sourcing Log

Definition

A running record of every image under consideration, capturing where it came from, who made it, and under what terms it may be used.

Why it matters

Reconstructing sourcing after the fact is far harder than recording it as you go — and an undocumented image often has to be cut late, after the work is built around it.

Example

A simple table: thumbnail, source URL, creator, license, permitted uses.

Teaching note

Due before compositing begins, not alongside the final piece. Sequenced that way it prevents a problem; sequenced the other way it merely documents one.
